Lono Earth Alternative Fuel (LEAF) is a faction of Lono Enterprises that focuses on solving global transportation dilemmas and alleviating the energy feeding frenzy. Peak oil, depletion of fossil fuels, foreign dependence, pollution, global warming…the list of problems that our current system creates is ongoing, but the answer is simple: biodiesel and SVO (straight vegetable oil). These alternative fuels are much cleaner, and because the use of conventional fuels for internal combustion engines is so pervasive that if even a tiny percentage of petroleum-users switched to bio fuels, the positive impact would be huge.
LEAF will be meeting the growing demand for a more affordable mode of transportation and is in line with the “go green” trends, which are not going to go away anytime soon. There could not be a better time to introduce SVO and Biodiesel to Central Ohio. We hope to get the LEAF name out there by first starting a SVO Cooperative for those in Columbus already running their cars on vegetable oil, and those interested in getting started. In the meantime, we hope to manufacture a Biodiesel Conversion System where we can serve diesel customers and become their everyday filling station.
SVO/WVO
Straight Vegetable Oil is oil that has not been altered or processed past the point of it being pressed and strained from its plant origin. Waste Vegetable Oil is Straight Vegetable Oil that has been used already, such as in fryers at a restaurant or deli.
BIODIESEL
Biodiesel is Straight Vegetable Oil that has been chemically thinned using lye and methanol. Of course these chemicals are not ideal and are more caustic than the SVO/WVO method. However, because biodiesel is more accessible to more people, it is ultimately a greater hope as an alternative fuel and it is still infinitely better than using diesel or gasoline.
